brownies ahead!

i want to sail in a sea of brownies. not just any brownies, the really fudgey gooey variety. cakey brownies, or brownies with nuts just dont compare. i truly believe that one can not have too many brownies. theyre just so good! thats why i dont understand why there are so many ads for chocolate targeting women who are pmsing--ill take chocolate any time. ESPECIALLY in brownie form. i dont need anything fancy-a cheap box of duncan hines brownie mix will serve me just fine. actually, i think that some of those fancy brownie types take away from the brownie itself. take this for example-what IS that? when i go a-huntin for a brownie, THAT is not what i want. not at all. the cheapest, most boring, brownies are some of the best. remember these? thats $3.80 for a whole box, folks. the scary blue ones? $36.00. so-what started all this talk to brownies? well. yesterday we went to eat at katzinger's and in rare form, i decided to buy one of their brownies. why is this rare? well, after buying a sandwich that costs almost $10.00-and eating it all (theyre really big) its hard to convince myself to spend another $2.00 when im already about to explode with sandwich goodness. somehow, i found myself totally enamored by this brownie and convinced myself to buy it. everyone knows that katzinger's is known for their sandwiches--but let me tell you about how good this brownie was. its about two inches thick of the best damn fudgey brownie you'll probably ever have. mmm im getting hungry just thinking about it. so anyways folks, if youre in the mood for a really really good brownie, and maybe want a really really good sandwich to go along with it, and dont mind driving to german village, and dont mind spending the money, go to katzinger's and buy the damn thing and then buy me a couple thousand so i can pile them around a boat and pretend im in a sea of them.

on pets...

while eating dinner tonight we decided to let ferdinand out to stretch his wings. we have been noticing lately that instead of flying down to the bottom of his cage (like normal birds) he's just been falling...so that means one of two things-ferdinand is either flying challenged, or he just needs more practice. needless to say, letting him out while i was eating was probably not the best idea. he flew right out of his cage (or fell rather) and onto my plate of food. now, not only did this scare the hell out of me, but it definately made the rest of the meal not as appetizing. gosh darnit he sure is cute though!

mix n' match food

sometimes the weirdest food combinations make for the best meals-pizza with pineapple, chocolate on saltines (okay i dont really eat that...but i know some people who do), and apple pie with american cheese are just some of the strange combinations a lot of us enjoy. Maybe its that whole salty/sweet combination that drives us to put two very different foods together, or maybe its just the inventor in all of us trying new things? well today, we were eating lunch just like any other day, when i started thinking about what i was eating--toasted peanut butter and strawberry jelly sandwich with field greens and gorgonzola cheese. eating sandwiches with salads is perfectly normal...i think it was just the type of sandwich and salad that all of a sudden seemed odd to me. nevertheless, it was still delicious.

procrastination...

is a real issue for me. i somehow can't seem to get motivated to work on a project until the last few days (sometimes THE day) before it's due. its not that i forget, or dont have time to work on it...every day that i have time to work, i think about it and tell myself to go work...but i end up using my time for better, more important(ok, thats a lie) things-like, lets say, taking pictures of food? i know this sounds irresponsible, it is BUT i honestly feel like unless i am motivated to do work...it will end up turning out like shit. im not saying that im ONLY motivated when it comes down to the last minute, if im really excited about a project i might get it done early?...or lets say start working on it earlier, but realizing a project is due in 24 hours sure is a motivating force that cant be ignored. now, i realize that in art, there are just some things that you CANT do at the very last minute, trust me, I KNOW. still, i hope some of you will agree that even if you do start a project early, lots of times you arent finished until right before the minute it is due. as artists (of whatever form) a lot of us are perfectionists-i personally, am never completely satisfied with a project--usually its done because its time to turn it in. therefore, answer me this--WHY oh WHY are the computer labs only open until 9:30? there are only certain labs with certain programs (and God knows none of us are financially able to buy any of those couple hundred dollar programs), and those certain labs also have classes held in them throughout the day--therefore, you are only able to work in them outside of class for a few hours each day. For example, tomorrow (thats wednesday) open lab hours are from 11-11:30 am and 8:18-9:30 pm. WHAT?! thats a total of ONE hour and 48 minutes folks. ridiculous-ESPECIALLY if youre working with a program that youre not very familiar with yet-it simply is just not enough time. Between work, and classes, more than two hours a day is going to be needed. Baker systems lab is open 24 hours, so why isnt there a 24 hour lab for art students? on behalf of all the procrastinators, perfectionists and down right POOR art students, i ask you, osu computer lab hour operator, GIVE US A LITTLE GRACE, HUH?

now, on to how food ties in with all this...(?)

after getting fed up with working on my project, (so i left a half hour before the lab closed, shoot me), i came back to have dinner with christopher and jt. after a long time trying to figure out where to eat (conditions: not too expensive, not too heavy, not too bad for you), we decided to go to oodles. on the plus side, there was a lot to choose from-rice dishes, pan fried noodles, noodle soups, dumplings, spring rolls, etc., lots of vegetarian options, fair prices, and quick and friendly service. honestly though, the meal all together was rather lack luster (ive been wanting to use that word for a really long time now). the spring rolls (both vegetarian and with meat) may have been good, but they were too oily to tell and both the noodles and rice dishes that we tried (shrimp pad thai, vegetarian delight over rice and shanghai noodles) were just....eh. the worst part of the meal for me, was i was horribly unsatisfied at the end of it. i was full, but wanted a salad, or something that wasnt soaked in oil or sauce to say "the end" to my meal. unfortunately for jt and christopher, im a horrible complainer and they didnt hear the end of it until...we got dairy queen! (i know...nice salad to end my meal) now, dairy queen may not be my favorite ice cream place (we have been over this ice cream makes me sick but i continue to eat it anyways) but they never disappoint. my kit-kat blizzard was great, sickeningly great. and im sure jt and chris's snickers blizzard (they got the same thing AND theyre brothers?! how cute) were great too...i was just too busy engulfing mine to be polite and ask about theirs. so...i guess the lesson for today is...i wouldnt recommend oodles...but i wouldnt NOT recommend oodles, and dairy queen is a sweet creamy end to any meal! (seriously, if any of you made it through all that i am thoroughly impressed)

child of the 80/90's

Like any child with foreign parents, having junk food...no. excuse me. american junk food in the house was not tolerated. at home, snack time consisted of me and my brothers gnawing on large peeled orange carrots, sliced tomatoes with sugar or entertaining ourselves by seeing how many green grapes we could fit in our mouths at once. so, when we were old enough to have lunchtime at school, a whole new world of snacks were introduced to our sheltered palates. i realize that half of these snacks are only tasty before the age of ten, but still, its fun to reminisce.

dunk-a-roos-the ones with the chocolate frosting were the best!
slim jims
teddy grahams
trix yogurt-i liked the ones that were half hot pink/half neon yellow
handi snacks
doritos 3d-remember the commercials with ali landry?
fruit roll ups
HI-C Ecto Cooler-green orange juice? what was i thinking?
hot fries
amazing fruit gummy bears
abra-ca-bubble-red candy with gum in the middle
big league chew
gatorade gum
candy cigarettes-we thought we were sooooooo cool
string cheese
choco taco
fun dip
warheads
fruitstripes gum-shortest lasting flavor ever
koala yummies
candy necklaces
kudos
ring pops-caused sticky hands

i had breakfast...

after church today...does that still count as breakfast? it was my first meal of the day...and i ate it in bed...but it was 1:30 pm. oh, who cares. get ready..mmm!

Earth Day

is tomorrow and if youre looking for something to do, this is pretty cool.
its local, youre helping the environment, you might just make a new friend, its going to be beauuuuuuutiful out tomorrow and most importantly, there will be FREE FOOD. HERE is more information about it for anyone who is curious. maybe ill see you there?

starbucks

working two jobs and going to school full time is great. seriously, i wouldnt change it for the world. im constantly busy, and sometimes it can be stressful--REALLY stressful (lack of sleep is a bitch) but, i really enjoy having my days full of things i have to get done. i hate feeling like im sitting around doing nothing with my life (although sometimes, days devoted to sitting around are great), and being busy helps me to feel like im working toward something. who knows what that is quite yet...but who cares? im blessed with good health, friends and family i love, a home to live in, transportation, a workplace and school--so why not take advantage of that? ill sit around when im old and my knees dont work. on that note, today at workplace #1 (i.e. coffee is consuming my life thanks to starbucks) after a slew of rude customers, (if you are mean to the people that serve you your coffee, please explain to me why that is necessary?), we began experimenting with writing messages in coffee...it needs some work, but im pretty proud.

sharing is caring

real quick. i only had one meal yesterday (tragic, i know). luckily, one of the best sandwich places in town is less than a block down the street from my house-AND they now have a new menu! which means for you vegetarian folks (like me) there is a million and a half different treats to now choose from...probably more like 12, but still. and for you meat eating folks there is even MORE to choose from. so, if any of you are ever on west third and drive by a place called Cafe Corner, i would suggest stopping in trying one of their amazing sandwiches. it may just change your life? or at least the sandwich eating part of your life.

food art?

there are a lot of reasons why these are so amazing. one-theyre made of food (duh) two-theyre actually pretty good three-i would never, ever have any materials left in order to paint with if i even attempted to try and do anything like this.

chocolate syrup

show some respect.

helllllloooo beautiful!

its true love! sigh..

the best way to ruin egg salad...

is by putting it on burnt toast because you only have ten minutes to get to work and you cant re-toast the bread or you'll be late and if youre late one more time you'll get fired so you then wait ten minutes to drive to work and clock in and by that time the toast is not only burnt but now cold and rock hard so you cut the roof of your mouth when taking your first bite (that youre secretly hoping will still be delicious) but by that time everyone has already seen that you brought a sandwich to work and they keep telling you how good it looks so you want to keep eating it to convince them that youre a good cook when really...really youre just stuck eating a really bad sandwich and you can only handle two more bites before it just becomes too painful and too sad to bear so you throw it away and try to forget the whole ordeal.

17.4.07

let me tell you...

about the best macaroni salad ever.

SERIOUSLY:
4 cups uncooked macaroni
1 cup mayo
1/4 cup white vinegar
2/3 cups white sugar
2 1/2 tablespoons mustard
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 large onion, chopped
2 stalks celery, chopped
1 green pepper, seeded/chopped

Bring a large pot of water to boil. Cook macaroni until tender, about 8 minutes. Rinse and drain under cold water. In a large bowl mix together the mayo, vinegar, salt, sugar, mustard and pepper. Stir in celery, green pepper, and macaroni. Refrigerate 4 hours before serving. mmm!

my eyes are damn hungry!

suzanne is a fond friend of food.

food likes: sushi, bibimbap, hamburgers (big and small), mac and cheese (the cheesy kind), macaroni salad, potato salad, chicken salad, regular salad, cookies (the soft kind-cya hard cookies), chinese, indian, spicy, sweet, fruits and veggies, steak, fish (especially salmon), black bean burgers, french fries, onion rings, spinach, green beans, broccoli, cake, anddddd breakfast.

food dislikes: spaghetti, nato, and thats pretty much it!

there are lots of reasons why suzanne and i are friends...but now that i think about it...perhaps the root of it all is our food likes. yes, i think so.

cya soon suzanne!

on consumption...

food is my favorite thing in the whole world. i love food more than i love my fish and my potbelly pig. in fact, i would eat my fish and my pig together on a bun. i have decided that no matter how poor i become, i will find a way to fill my belly. and seeing that im not just a little, but VERY poor, this mission consumes me. i dont know how i get anything done at all--my mind is dedicated to deciding what i should have for my next meal, what creative snack i can cook up with what left in my fridge, and how i can most deliciously spend my last five dollars. one day, you may see me on the street, on my porch, or maybe even across a classroom and think "my, that girl sure isnt paying attention! she's gonna get into trouble with her head in the clouds like that". but oh no my friends, not into trouble--into another satisfying food situation. daydreaming was built for pondering over food. why, lets ponder over some of my favorites right now! pickles, mangoes, ritz crackers, swiss cake rolls, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (grilled please), burger king french fries, bagels with vegetable cream cheese, jelly filled donuts, potato salad, macaroni salad, egg salad, seriously, ANY kind of salad..except maybe ham salad, black bean burgers, skor bars, brownies (no nuts), mushroom and pineapple pizza, bob evans rolls only!, peas, pesto, ravioli, sushi, OH. MY. GOD. INDIAN FOOD, kimchi, vegetable lo mein, cherry pie, condiments...oh condiments...mayo, ketchup, any kind of mustard-except for that horseradish shit. gross. ,bbq sauce, ranch dressing, A1 steak sauce...this could go on for days. so, take some time in your day to think about the foods that would make that day even better than it already was! and remember good people, CONSUMPTION IS KEY.

i feel silly-

for having this blog. well-not just this blog--but any blog at all. i have never planned on-wished-or wanted a blog--and somehow i end up taking a class that requires me to have a blog. funny how the universe works likes that--but hell-maybe that just means that it was meant to be--and i will fall in love with having a blog--or maybe im getting ahead of myself. ok. so. um. what is this going to be about. well--i have many passions in life--art. music. dance. blahblahblah. most importantly--sleeping. eating. snuggling. im not about to have a blog about sleeping--that cant be very exciting. snuggling--is best left alone. so i guess that leaves eating. how about food in general? --i guess no one can answer so food it is. we will see how this--or where this goes...
